The Cleanaway Materials Recovery Facility in South Guildford, Western Australia – the largest in the southern hemisphere – has today caught fire and burnt through potentially 1 million tonnes of waste materials, including mixed plastic and cardboard wastes.

The WA Fire and Emergency Services are still battling the blaze at 5.15pm today and have gained control of the blaze but are unable to put the fire out. The fire started at 9am this morning.
